Useful Links

The following links can be of use for finding the Greek etymological roots of the English lexis:

  1. Etymonline.com is a free online database providing etymological roots for the English language. It is quite analytic and professionally made, yet it is sometimes lacking alternative etymologies. You can access by clicking here.
  2. The lexicon of English Etymology by the Reverend George William Lemon (1726-1797) is an exhaustive piece of work. Nevertheless, many of the etymologies his cites herein are considered by some contemporary linguists as being oudated, especially after the advent of the theory for a Proto-Indo-European, otherwise still hypothetical, language. Interestingly, the Reverend is especially assuming in the Greek etymological roots he cites. You can access his book for free by clicking here.
